The Kwanmukan training session on December 12, led by Hanshi Hickey, was well received. Therefore, we are holding another training session on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Hanshi Hickey’s dojo (4540 Stow Road, Stow, OH 44224). This session will be jointly led by Hanshi Overholt and Shihan’s Bukala and Feldman, and will continue to cover Kwanmukan related topics. The session will begin with a martial fitness workout from 9 am to 10 am (optional but recommended), followed by the KMK training from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and will include a ½ hour pizza lunch. Training will be a combination of floor work and discussion. We have scheduled the training for the fourth Saturday of January, recognizing that dojo testing traditionally is held on the third Saturday of the month. Cost is $10 to help pay for lunch.
While we referred to the session in December as Sensei training, that may have been misconstrued. This is training for existing and future organizational leaders who are committed to sustaining the martial art of Kwanmukan and the legacy of Hanshi George Anderson. The training session is open to all KMK black belts; brown belts may attend with permission of their Sensei or Shihan.
There are many KMK members who did not have the fortune of learning under Grandmaster Anderson or only did so on a limited basis. These sessions are intended to provide history and technical understanding of the Kwanmukan per Mr. Anderson’s direct students. In this manner, through like sessions, we hope to continue to develop a common understanding and platform so that we may continue to provide higher-level training and promote deeper understanding of the martial art known as Kwanmukan.
Please RSVP to the email from which you received this announcement or by phone call to the number below. We look forward to seeing you in January.
A comment from Hanshi Hickey:
These sessions while called Sensei training sessions are open. We not only want to train the current Sensei but also new sensei and there are dojo sensei who could benefit from the training. Hanshi Anderson never limited attendance at his trainings and neither should we. Training is targeted for the senior sensei and is not lowered because of others in attendance.
Best regards,
Sensei Rich Arter
