The World ChangMooKwan
The World ChangMooKwan was created to keep from being, lost the memory and teachings of its founder Lee Nam Suk. This organization initially was founded by Great Grandmasters George E. Anderson and Ed Huminsky and its history is being carried on by today's Director - Grandmaster Patrick M. Hickey. The World ChangMooKwan is currently being run as a legacy organization but can still give credentials to qualified martial artists who meet the high standards of instruction, performance and dedication to the teachings of the ChangMooKwan.
Short History of the ChangMooKwan
Byung In Yoon began teaching in the Y in Seoul Korea in the 1940's. Two of his students were Lee Nam Suk and Park Chul Hee, founders of the ChangMooKwan and Kang Duk Won respectively. Byung In Yoon had studied Chu'an Fa in Manchuria (Kwon Bop in Korean) and later studied with Toyoma who founded the Shudokan and is listed among the Shudokan Shihan. Byung In Yoon disappeared from South Korea after the Korean War and the dojang continued with Lee Nam Suk as the head of the ChangMooKwan and Park Chul Hee founding his Kang Duk Won with Hong Jong Pyo.
In the early 1970's both Kwans became part of the Kukkiwon giving up their individual identity. Later on, students of the great grandmasters who did not wish for Taekwondo to become merely a sports concept convinced the great grandmasters to continue on the traditions of their earlier teaching and training. Thus a movement was created to keep the original identity of Korean martial arts including Su Bak Do, Kwon Bop Bu and others. Thus the World ChangMooKwan as it is known today.
Today the Central Taekwondo maintains contact with both the ChangMooKwan and the Kang Duk Kwon. Patrick M. Hickey, President of the Central Taekwondo Association, holds eighth dan in both the Chang Moo Kwan and ninth dan in the Kang Duk Kwon maintaining as much as possible the traditional values of two of the initial Taekwondo Kwan.

The Central Taekwondo Association (CTA) was formed by George E. Anderson, Larry Lunn, Dan R. Willis and Bob Chaney as the original directors in 1971. Formally incorporated in 1974, Anderson became the first director. Patrick Hickey was one of the first officers of the CTA. The CTA grew rapidly into one of the largest martial arts organizations in the USA at that time and became interested in national affairs.
