How to apply for the Kwanmukan Ranking

Rank in the International Kwanmukan needs to come through a Kwanmukan-recognized dojo. Details of our ranking procedures are in the document attached. Kwanmukan issues grades in Karate, Jujitsu, and Judo. Kwanmukan also has arrangements with other organizations to issue their members grades in these and other martial arts, provided the Kwanmukan approves them as the authorizing body. In consideration of the high privilege of issuing Kyu and Rank grades through the Kwanmukan and receiving income associated with their issuance, authorizing bodies and persons are required to follow the procedures attached.

Forms Required for International Kwanmukan Ranking

For Dan ranking for Kwanmukan Members, please see the forms below. For kyu (kup or gup) ranks, please contact your dojo, sensei, or shihan.

Forms

1. Black Belt Application - required of all applicants
2. Black Belt Instructor Agreement - only those applicants age 18 and over
3. Obligation for Dan - required of all applicants age 18 and over
4. Obligation for Junior Dan - required of all applicants under age 18
5. Curriculum Plan Application - required for all promotions 5th dan or higher

Additional Requirements
You must be current (within two years) for the below.

1. Evidence of passing a background check - within two years of the date of application.
2. Evidence of completion of a SafeSport or similar program - within two years of the date of application.
3. Concussion Training - within two years of the date of application.
4. First Aid and CPR is recommended for all who teach in a dojo.

The International Kwanmukan issues or has relationships with organizations who issue rank in Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujitsu, Kobudo, Jodo, Iaido. To be considered or supported in rank either through the International Kwanmukan or through one of its related organizations must complete an appropriate application and pay the required fees. Rank can be issued at either the kyu (kup) or dan levels. Please view the website pages of the particular partner organization you have an interest in.
